The Tongan Tongue
The official language of Tonga is, of course, Tongan, alongside English, which was taught to Tongans by their British protectors. Tongan belongs to the expansive Malayo-Polynesian language family, and is closely related with Hawaiian, Samoan, and Niuean languages. In terms of usage, Tongan is often used in daily life and in some of the countryfs mass media, while English is more utilized for governmental and academic documents and purposes.
